Portland

So a few weekends ago we took a couple days off work to fly out to Portland to see Aunt Sassy for her graduation from University of Portland. The trip started off well with Audrey getting super excited about our friend Kristin's clip in her hair as we drove to the airport. The flight went well, with Mommy only getting a little bit nervous. Friday was fun as Aunt Sassy, Audrey, Mommy, and Momma walked around Portland all day. That evening as we walked to dinner Audrey was super impressed with the tall buildings that she had to lean her head all the way back to look up at. Her response was a drawn out "WOW!" that sounded much like a baby tiger roaring! We were all super tired after laughing and walking all day! Saturday we got to see the rest of the family as they arrived and began the graduation festivities. Even though we were super tired that night, Aunt Sassy and Momma really wanted pizza so they dragged Mommy all over Portland, (walking), again searching for pizza while Uncle Ben watched Audrey in the hotel. We trekked all over and got super grumpy as we realized all restaurants in the area closed super early. We finally returned to the hotel, only to find what we wanted right next door! Sunday was fun watching Aunt Sassy in the world's longest graduation ceremony ever! And later we got dinner in a swanky place where Audrey really liked looking at the flaming swords of meat that were being served. She also informed us that her noodles were too wet and used the doily to dry them off. Always entertaining! The flight back was bumpy, but both Audrey and Mommy did really well, and all were super happy to get home! More pictures are to come!

Doing better

Audrey hasn't thrown up since 5:30 last night, so it looks like it was a short bug, thankfully. She's still pretty mellow and tired, as DCP put it, she's been "a lump, but a cute lump" all day. I'll pick her up, take her home and we'll probably sack out on the couch watching movies, just like yesterday. After all, isn't that the only way to deal when you are sick? And when she's older, momma says she can have 7-up and soup to help her feel better.

Sick girl

Wow, 20 days since our last post? We are truly slacking. Unfortunately, I'm back to say that Audrey is sick. She's throwing up. It started this morning, and seemed like it was getting better. She went about 3 hours without throwing anything up, and I let her have some crackers, water, milk and oatmeal. Not huge amounts of any of them, but I figured hey, if she's gonna puke, maybe she'll at least have absorbed some fluids and nutrients before it happens. I think she got some nurishment before it all came back up. About 10 minutes after the barf-fest, she was acting fine again, wanting to play and eat. I postponed the eating for a while, but eventually gave in and let her finish her oatmeal before she went to bed. She's got mattress protectors on the bed, bucket to puke in (which she has actually been pretty good with) and towels next to the bed, just in case. Its gonna be a long night, and probably a long day again tomorrow. Just as long as she's well for Aunt Sassy's graduation in Portland this weekend.

Big girl bed

Audrey had fun playing on the big girl beds at Ikea. We came home and talked about it, and Audrey promised she'd sleep in the big bed if we got her a new one, so Michele went back to Ikea and bought the bed while Audrey and I stayed home to dismantle the crib and the other big bed in her room. Let me give everyone a bit of advice- 2 hours before bedtime is NOT a good time to buy and assemble a big girl bed *especially* if you have dismantled the other beds. Just a suggestion...

Anyway, at 9:30, 2.5 hours after her bedtime, Audrey finally got to go to sleep in her big girl bed. Other than a small tumble from the bed in the middle of the first night, its been a smooth transition (knock on wood). Michele has even woken up the past two mornings hearing Audrey putting her "guys" down for naps in the hallway, telling them to be quiet cuz momma's still sleeping.

Here's what Audrey deems appropriate room-rearranging attire:

"I just freaked out"

First, Audrey's rodeo clown pictures are in the 03/2008 folder.
Second, everyone is fine.
Third, Michele and Audrey were rearended today. Everyone was fine immediately following the accident, other than Audrey and Michele both being shaken up. The guy is insured, a police report was filed, the car was able to be driven away (minus the rear window, but still driveable). Michele dropped Audrey off at day care, and we got a call about an hour later that Audrey said her tummy hurt. When asked to show her where, Audrey was pointing to her chest where the chest clip on the car seat goes. So, we call the doctor who told us we need to to to the ER because they have better capabilities to do x-rays and tests if needed on the little kids. So we pick her up and go to the ER. By the time we got back to a bed, she was completely fine- laughing, playing, eating, jumping. The doc said she was probably just sore and that was completely normal. She got some motrin and we all headed home.
We went out to dinner (who wants to cook after a day like that?) and Audrey and I left together and Michele got a ride from a couple friends to go pick up the wagon at work. When we got to the car and I started to buckle her in, Audrey freaked out. She started crying, asking for momma and saying she was scared. After some cuddles and hugs, I let her talk to momma on the phone while I drove, which calmed her down a lot. When we got home, she kept saying, "I just freaked out about that car, the car was scary." Its so sad to hear a two and a half year old say she was freaked out. Poor baby. She's sleeping now, and hopefully tomorrow she won't "just freak out" again.
